Leslie LeCornu lives and works in her studio in Maui, Hawaii, USA. She was born in California and also has roots in Colorado and Texas. Her art has many
inspirations including her travels to across Europe, Thailand and Latin America, as well as sailing trips throughout the Caribbean Islands. Leslie is greatly
inspired by nature’s beauty; all forms of vibrant color, texture, patina and how they coexist. Leslie’s art work resonates with vibrant energy, life and
movement.
“Painting is a journey from start to finish for me with layers and layers of color, texture and energy," said Leslie. “Really, you’ll find no hidden messages, just
works imbued with energy, color and light.”
Leslie utilizes recycled or re-used materials to minimize her impact on natural resources, the climate and environment. Leslie’s husband, a master carpenter,
prepares reclaimed work surfaces that result in her stunning collection. Her art work includes illustration, album cover design, large & small scale interior
projects, tattoo & textile design.
“I feel that creative re-use has the potential to spark new ways of looking at the world.” According to Leslie, “If one thing can be turned into another,
preventing exceptional materials from going into the land fill, then it's a good start. The reuse of materials in my designs stimulates my creativity; it becomes
a challenge to incorporate as much recycled material as possible.”
Leslie works with layers of thin and thick color, washed or adhered over textured or smooth surfaces. Traces are left by assorted papers, drawings and
surfaces, which are wiped, layered washed, stippled and sanded; all adding an accumulated depth and a sense of age. The average painting has three to
15 layers of paint.
With a keen eye toward to the needs of interior designers and their clients, Leslie’s works of art fill a niche in Maui for abstract and tropically infused art that
transforms empty walls and creates synergy within the overall home design. Working with recycled materials and turning her eye to the need for modern
and abstract works, Leslie works closely with interior designers to complete room designs with her art.
